Fleas, Ticks & Lice

The summer in Montana is the most common time of year for pets to become infected with external parasites such as fleas, ticks & lice. We recommend using preventative products such as Frontline Plus once a month to protect your pet or as a treatment for these common parasites. Frontline comes in a liquid that is applied topically, usually between the shoulder blades or on the back of the neck (to prevent licking). The dose is dependent upon your animal’s weight.  When you apply Frontline, the active ingredient fipronil is stored in the oil glands under your pet’s skin. It is then distributed continuously to the skin and hair of your pet through the hair follicles.

When used monthly, Frontline Plus completely breaks the flea life cycle and controls tick and chewing lice infestations. Research demonstrates that Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, flea eggs, and flea larvae for up to three months and prevents the development of all flea stages for up to three months, however, if there is a high risk of re-infestation, a once monthly application may be necessary. Frontline Plus kills ticks & chewing lice for at least one month, therefore a once a month application is recommended for tick & chewing lice control.

Note: Lice that infect dogs and cats are not the same species as human lice and they cannot be transferred to humans from pets.
